A VPS covers 90% of tasks. The remaining 10% are databases of hundreds of gigabytes, heavy 1C for 50+ users, licenses “per physical core” and regulatory requirements. Let’s look at when to make the move.
Four signs it’s time
- Consistently high load. If a VPS with 16 vCPU and 64 GB (from 81 000 UZS per day) runs at 70% around the clock, it’s time to look at a dedicated server: a D-2 with 16 physical cores, 64 GB and 2 × 960 GB SSD costs 200 000 UZS per day — more expensive, but all cores and disks are yours alone, with no neighbors on the host.
- Disk is the bottleneck. 1C, PostgreSQL or MS SQL databases of hundreds of gigabytes with thousands of transactions: NVMe with exclusive access delivers stable latency with no “neighbors”.
- Per-core licensing. MS SQL Server, Oracle and some ERP systems count physical cores — on a dedicated server this is transparent and cheaper.
- Isolation requirements. Banks, fintech and government clients sometimes require that data not share a physical host with other companies.
Comparison
| VPS | Dedicated server | |
|---|---|---|
| Launch | minutes | 1–3 days (from stock), 2–4 weeks (custom order) |
| Resources | flexible, changed in the panel | fixed by configuration; upgrades mean replacing components |
| Performance | stable, on a shared host | maximum, exclusive |
| Snapshots, clones | in the panel | with your own tools or via a hypervisor |
| Price from | 4 000 UZS/day | 120 000 UZS/day |
Rent or buy
Buying a D-2 class server costs about 60–80 million UZS, plus colocation, plus disk replacement after 3–4 years, plus the server becomes outdated. Renting a D-2 costs 200 000 UZS per day (about 6 million per month), with failed components replaced at our expense, no capital expenditure, and the option to change the configuration after a year. If the load is stable and you need the server for two years or more, buying it and placing it in colocation usually works out cheaper; renting pays off when a quick start with no upfront investment, a short horizon or configuration flexibility matter.
A hybrid option
Often the best setup: a dedicated server for the database or 1C, while the web front end, test environments and auxiliary services run on VPS in the same network. Between them is a private network with no traffic metering.
What’s included in a MyCloud rental
A server in a rack in our Tashkent data center, redundant power, an internet uplink, an IP address, IP-KVM for console access, component replacement on failure, and Remote Hands for basic operations. Administration is available as a separate service, or you can handle it in-house.
