How Much Does Colocation Cost: Breaking Down the Bill for a 1U Server

Colocation Published: 14.09.2026 · 6 min read

Colocation price lists often look like ten line items, and it’s unclear what the total will be. Let’s break down the bill for a single 1U server item by item and compare it with running a server room in the office.

What makes up the price

Most data centers build their rates from the same components; only the numbers and the way power is billed differ:

  • Rack space — per unit (1U = 44.45 mm in height). With us, 15 000 UZS per day.
  • Power — based on power supply capacity. With us, 50 UZS per day per rated watt.
  • Network port — 1 Gbps to the data center switch is included; 10 Gbps is 15 000 per day.
  • Internet and TASIX/UZIX — up to 100 Mbps included; beyond that, 2 000 per Mbps of internet and 300 per Mbps of TASIX.
  • IP addresses — 1 500 UZS per day per address.
  • Installation — 50 000 UZS one-time.

Example: a 1U server with one 350 W power supply

Per month (30 days) — 1 020 000 UZS, plus 50 000 one-time for installation. Power is half the bill, so check your power supply rating before the move: many 1U servers ship with 450–550 W supplies, even though real consumption is 120–200 W.

Example: the same server with two power supplies

A second 350 W supply adds 17 500 per day — 51 500 UZS per day in total, about 1 545 000 per month. In return, you get connected to two independent power feeds: if one has a problem, the server keeps running. For a database or 1C that the whole company depends on, it’s justified; for a test server, it isn’t.

Example: a 2U server with its own router

2U (30 000) + two 500 W supplies (50 000) + two IPs (3 000) + your own 1U router (8 000) = 91 000 UZS per day, about 2.7 million per month. Noticeably more — mostly because of the powerful supplies. If one 500 W supply is enough for the server, the bill drops to 66 000.

Compared with a server room in the office

A single server in the office “costs nothing” — until you do the math:

  • a 1–1.5 kVA UPS and its batteries every 3–4 years — 3–6 million UZS;
  • air conditioning in the server room and its power — from 200 000 UZS per month in summer;
  • power for the server itself — at 200 W of real consumption, about 150 000 per month;
  • two internet connections for redundancy — from 500 000 per month;
  • downtime when a power outage outlasts the UPS — measured in lost working hours for the company;
  • someone who’ll come in at night to reboot the server.

The total is comparable to colocation — but without a diesel generator, BGP, security and a 24/7 on-call engineer.

When colocation, and when a VPS

If the server is already purchased and running, host it: there’s no point paying for a virtual server in parallel. If the server is still being planned, price out a VPS: an 8 vCPU / 16 GB / 200 GB configuration costs 35 000 UZS per day — about the same as 1U colocation, but without buying 40–60 million worth of hardware and without replacing disks three years later. Often the best option is a combination: your own hardware for a heavy database, a VPS for everything else, on the same data center network.

You can price your server on the 1U colocation page or in the colocation calculator — enter the units, the number and wattage of power supplies, and IPs.
