Renting Cameras and Servers vs. Buying: The Math for a Store and a Pickup Point

Video surveillance Published: · 4 min read

Opening a pickup point or a store means a cash register, shelving, renovation and 5–8 million UZS worth of cameras. Renting removes that line from your startup costs. But does it always pay off? Let’s do the math.

What you can rent

  • 2–4 MP IP cameras, indoor and outdoor, installation included.
  • Bridge-32/64 — a device that connects cameras to the cloud, with local recording if the internet goes down.
  • PoE switches to power cameras over a single cable.
  • Mini servers and thin clients for workstations.
  • Routers with 4G failover.

Example: a pickup point with 3 cameras

When renting makes sense

  • The location is new or seasonal: if it closes, the equipment can be moved to another of your locations at no extra charge.
  • Your startup budget is limited, but cameras are a marketplace requirement from day one.
  • You’re opening several locations at once and don’t want to tie up cash.
  • You have no in-house IT staff: the rental includes installation, replacement and setup.

When buying makes sense

The location is stable, your horizon is 2–3 years or more, and someone can maintain the equipment. Also if you need specialized cameras (thermal, PTZ) that aren’t in the rental fleet. A middle option is buyout: after 12 months of rental you can buy the equipment for 50% of its price, or earlier, taking the rent already paid into account — the buyout price decreases with every paid month.

What’s included in a MyCloud rental

Equipment, installation and setup, cloud connection, replacement within 1–2 days if something breaks, and phone consultations. Not included: damage caused by the client (water, physical damage) — charged per the price list. The minimum term is a 12-month MCVMS subscription; early return means paying the remaining months of rent or buying the equipment out.
